What is spot UV business card printing?

Spot UV printing is a special printing technique where a UV-cured coating is applied to part of a print material making it shine. We can apply spot a UV coating to business cards to emphasize logos, calls to action, or any other detail you need to “pop.” UV business card printing makes it easy to create your most memorable business card yet.

Print with spot UV to highlight anything you want. Use it on company names, contact numbers, artwork and other special features on your card. It is a popular option for branding premium services. A spot UV business card is a good fit for anyone who wants to be noticed and improve their connections.

Spot UV business cards are printed on sturdy 16 pt. cardstock that elevates your design with the following features:

  • Applies a little more heft that increases the weight and feel of your standout design.
  • Comes in shiny gloss that protects the cardstock from folds and creases; colors also pop out from afar.
  • Also available in a smooth matte that suits soft, muted colors and provides greater contrast to the shiny spot UV.

You may order gloss or matte spot UV business cards in a range of sizes, including 2″ x 3.5″ (the most popular U.S. business card size). Rounded corners are available as well. You can also make your own business cards with our free design tool and downloadable business card design templates.

Spot UV File Preparation Guidelines

What are the best design practices for spot UV printing?

  • Limit the text’s font size to a minimum of 7 or 8 points.
  • Border and stroke should be above 1.5 points.
  • Place a 1/16” gap between spot UV and metallic or foil printing areas. The spot UV areas cannot overlap with the metallic or foil printing sections.

How should I prepare my file for spot UV printing?

Your regular color file should come with a spot UV template layer that shows where to apply the spot UV printing.

Apply 100% K to the section that will have spot UV.

Color all other areas without spot UV as white.
